Just getting a little confused by what I’ve read on various websites.. I’m intending to drive through the Gulf States into Egypt and Jordan. From what I understand Tourist visas are issued as business visas, but only on the condition that a tour guide accompanies me. Is it not possible to just get a visa that allows me to drive freely through the country?

Can I get a Tourist Visa for Saudi Arabia?

Mintee is mixing things up, but you can visit the following website http://www.scta.goc.sa.
i do not believe you will be allowed to enter saudi on your own to cross it by car just like that.
my idea, as i have read in the papers that did similar things, is that you contact the saudi embassy, consulate general in your country of residence, even try the SCTA as on the website i’ve given you and explain to them your project, if someone likes it and buys the idea, you might get some support, probably the SCTA would sponsor you, this is the supreme commission of tourism and antiquities. they act as tourism boards and ministry of tourism.

You can get a tourist visa but only as part of an organized tour group.

our country isnt an open tourist country.. we have religiously sensative areas and do to our religion.. we dont want people just going about freely here and there snapping photos and staring at things. some people here dont want to be looked at or taken photos of, especially muslim women..
I dont know, but sometimes they issue transit visas but I think these are for air trips.. not land trips.. you just have to contact the saudi embassy in your country and ask..
