I have a friend going to Egypt, and they heard that foreign currencies are valued more and will get you a better deal on the street than Egyptian pounds, but what is the best currency to take ? Have US Dollars lost their sheen or are they still the best ?.

Last time I was there they’d take anything they could get. Tell your friend to bargain furiously, starting at less than half the offered price and never to acknowledge the touts who pester you all the time. Speak to them in any language and you’ll never shake them off. Also, food poisoning is endemic. 95% on our cruise ship were ill, so take as much water as you can carry, drink only from sealed bottles while there and eat only cooked food.
