What is the minimum duration that is recommended?
All travel agents included a Nile Cruise that is 3 nights and also means traveling 2 nights in train to and fro Cairo. I am not a fan of that is that worth it?
What are the places I just can’t miss and what would be ideal?
I thought 2 nights is enough as the Pyramids n a Temple is enough, Please recommend.

If you wanna check out some pics of practically everywhere in Egypt, try the 40+ albums in the "Discover Egypt" page on Facebook and make your mind up yourself.

Spend only 1-2 days in Cairo to see pyramids, history museum, do shopping for souvenirs and/or jewellery. You can shop in Sharm as well, but for double price.
1 day: To see Upper Nile’s historical sites without train/long boat trips you can fly there from Cairo.
5-7 days in Sharm: snorkeling, diving (or learning to dive), swimming & sunbathing, clubs. Go for bigger hotels if you like it fun and don’t mind the noise and smaller hotels for a more peaceful experience.

I spent almost a month in Egypt as a tourist earlier this year and I can say that the best of Egypt is located under the water :), not on surface. Take time to discover the wonderful marine world. And make sure you have an underwater camera! 🙂

well I am a resident not a tourist but I don’t mind sharing my opinion.

I’d say about 5 days, simply because the Nile cruise will waste 3 of those as you’ve heard..

UNLESS you can land in Cairo, see the pyramids then fly to luxor, see the temples down there, (optional)(fly to Alex see the aquatic treasures) and then fly to sharm and enjoy your stay there.

oh and let me give you a tip, try to avoid taking trains. At least if you do go 1st class, 2nd and 3rd are usually hell.

    Hope you enjoy your visit.
